The announcement text: |
SugaryLinks is seeking two Internet engineers beginning in 2010. The company was founded by an ex MIT research scientist at CSAIL at end of 2009, with the goal to design and engineer `incentive sugar` for the Internet---mechanisms that coordinates behavior of users in a distributed application. The Internet architecture was one commitment to a particular design that enabled certain markets to form. There are many others as yet unexplored. Our general solution strategy is to combine the industry`s lessons learnt from the past four decades of work in Internet architectures (from layer 3 to 7) with behavioral underpinnings of user interactions, to design new interaction protocols. Our solution tactics is through the use a variety of tools from AI, CS, economics, psychology and sociology. Currently we are particularly interested in casual game mechanics.
We are seeking one front and one backend engineer to join SugaryLinks on a project with Harvard university, and involving MIT community as a participating node. The goal of the project is to build a web (and possibly mobile) `signaling` platform for community members to create member networks. The platform will be deployed initially at Harvard and MIT and then released globally to academic as well as other `networks` including entrepreneurial networks. The longer term goal of the project is to create greater liquidity in entrepreneur networks. The project will commence in 2010 and involve several phases. The initial phase will be six, possibly nine months, with strong likelihood of extensions into additional years.
Responsibilities:
* Interact with multi-stake holders, including academics, community and product manager
* Research and suggest solutions patterns to engineering and business logic problems
* Implement and communicate an efficient End-to-End prototyping and production level code from scratch
* Time and process management using rapid development and project management methodologies and platforms
Requirements (FE = FrontEnd, BE= BackEnd engineer, B= Both front and backend engineers):
* B: BS in Computer Science
* B: Independence and ability to operate and solve problems in high ambiguity contexts
* B: Ability to communicate ideas clearly and convince others
* B: Previous startup experience as Dev Lead, Sr. Developer, or comparable.
* B: 2+ years relevant web and OOP programming experience.
* BE: Experience in Java/C++
* BE: Knowledge of Python, Django, Javascript, JSON, XML,MySQL
* BE: Amazon Web Services
* FE: Design of web interaction and information architectures
* FE: CSS, HTML, XML, PhotoShop and Illustrator
* B: Experience with rapid development and project management methodologies and platforms
* B: Strong technical interest in latest Web 2.0 innovations
* B: Cocoa programming (desirable)
* B: US Citizenship or permanent resident
We are a young, flat and engineer oriented company with a culture of smart and self driven people who are also `animals`. We are currently a garage based startup located in NYC but will consider suitable candidates contributing from any location. We want people who know and care about the Internet, not just engineering but also its culture. The compensation is negotiable but will be commensurate with academic grant (and therefore not as competitive as industry levels). You will in exchange have an opportunity to take charge in many different areas of the project (from engineering to business logic) and be part of an interesting ecosystem of entrepreneurs, academics from MIT and Harvard, and leading venture community members.
